Texas Delegates Receive a Warm Welcome in Washington

Texas metalcasters participated in the American Foundry Society’s (AFS) Government Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C., to discuss the pressing legislative and regulatory issues facing the industry and take their message to Capitol Hill. Seven Texas delegates, Chris Norch, Kyle Robson, Peter Macler, Tim Purcell, Tom McCormack, Dan Smith, and Eric Meyers, attended the GAC.

Delegates with Rep. Barton

This was a strong showing for Texas, especially because Chris Norch is the current AFS National President. The delegates were able to meet with most of our elected officials to pass on our industry concerns. Representatives Barton and Hall were well aware of the metalcasting industry due to the efforts of Oil City Iron Works and Denison Industries respectively.

Delegates with Rep. Gohmert

There was a chance meeting with Senator Cruz at dinner one evening. Senator Cruz visited with the group and made sure his staff spent time with them the next day.

The continuing issues with silica, greenhouse gasses, and coal were once again addressed to make sure that our opinions were voiced to our representatives. Our persistence is absolutely necessary; otherwise, as Mr. Norch likes to say, “If you’re not at the table, then you’re on the menu!”

Thanks to the Texas delegates for their dedication.
